Well, since the lists I have for myself are no longer listed on the websites I found them on, and because they are so helpfull and very straight forward, i'm going to put the lists on here for everyone. Who knows, we may save a bunny an upset tummy. You want to continue giving your bunny pellets, but reduce the amount when you add in greens and treats to make sure bunny doesn't get a chunky belly.
What you can feed your bunny lots of.First off, if you're going to give your bunny greens, try and do a variety and include at least 1 item that has vitamin A in it every day. To introduce your bunny to the new foods, give them a small amount (about 1/4 cup at the most) of each new item every 3-4 days. So, 2 new items a week untill the bunny is fine with the new foods. Upset tummies in bunnies can be very serious, so you want to watch and make sure the bunny doesn't have loose stool or no stool at all. If this happens, stop feeding the new food immediately. Always make sure any food you give your bunny has been properly washed before feeding.
#1 Thing your bunny should have unlimited access to (other than water!) is TIMOTHY hay. Make sure it's timothy, NOT alfalfa. Foods with Vitamin A in them: Beet greens (Tops) Collard Greens Dandelion greens and flowers (a big favorite!) Endive Pea pods (flat edible kind) Romaine Lettuce (NO light colored types of lettuce!) Watercress Other items you can give your bunny as a main staple in it's diet: Apple Mint Arugula Radish and clover sprouts Basil Bok Choy (chinese cabbage) Brussel Sprouts Celery (make sure this is cut up cross-wise to help keep the risk down of choking on strings. Or you can also peel with a potato peeler. Works great to get the strings off and makes it taste better. Try it!) Chard Cilantro Clover Dill Escarole Fennel Green Peppers Mint Peppermint Leaves Pineapple-Mint Pineapple-Sage Raddichio Radish Tops Raspberry Leaves Sweet Potatos Turnip Greens (Tops) Wheat Grass |
Things to use as treats or in small amounts.Try to not feed more than two of these in a week, and for the fruits/veggies, no more than 1-2 tablespoons a day.
Broccoli(Stems and leaves) Carrots Carrot Tops Kale Mustard Greens Parsley Spinach Apple Banana Blueberry Cranberry Grape Melon Papaya Peach Pear Plum Pineapple Pumpkin Raisin Raspberry Strawberries |
Guinea pig food is also safe to feed to rabbits, however, for any pelleted food DO NOT choose foods with freeze dried fruits as it's not good for bunnies. Also "treats" sold in stores such as yogurt drops aren't good for bunnies.
